The work concerns the construction through Direct Labour of the 53km Bangem-Nguti road. The road links Bangem to Tombel and then Nguti on the National Road (Kumba Mamfe). The specific convention no. 365/CS/CC/MINTP/BIR/2023 was signed linked with a framework Convention NO: 364/CC/MINTP/BIR/2023 for the construction through direct labour of the road R0702, stretch of BANGEM-NGUTI, 53KM in Kupe Muanenguba Division of the Southwest region.
It should be noted that the said contract was awarded to the Rapid Intervention Battellion (BIR), for an estimated amount of 41 000, 000, 000 FCFA, including tax. The funding is provided by MINTP, MINEPAT, and MINFI. The project owner, Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi has emphasised seeing progress of work on the field.
He has warned the contractors against exceeding the deadline of the contract, which is 24 months. As of now, the gravel base course of 0/31.5 is ongoing at PK 0+900 downward. The topographic works from Pk 0+000 (Bangem squares) – Pk 13+000 Ballock Hill, including the topographic works at Pk 4+000 (Ndibsi Government Primary School) housing, have been completed.
Talking about the Geotechnical samples, it has been completed on the carriageway from Pk 0+000 (Bangem) – Pk 10+000 (Elah) and Geotechnical works on the various borrowed pits, that is Njom pit at 2.202km from Bangem Squares and at Tchockte at about 500m from Enyandong that is at PK 6+300 (Enyandong ).
Geotechnical Works on the platform and the Foundation layers, have been completed with topographic Works on the platform and the foundation layer also have been done with the treatment of underground water, stones have been executed from PK 1+300 –PK 1+600, excavation to the platform has been done till PK 7+150
Construction of Stone Masonry gutters from PK 0+900 (2800ml) foundation layer has been placed from PK 0+900 - PK 4+500. Box culvert of 3x2*19ml has been completed at PK 0+893, box Culvert of 1x1 at PK 4+000 has been done at 100%
In addition, precast reinforced concrete gutters have been supplied on-site with

Intensive works on the site at the moment from PK 3+800 (Ndipsi) and PK 8+000 (Elah), cleaning of the roadway has been executed right till PK 9+600, Implantation of the bridge at PK 8+000 ongoing. Meanwhile, the geotechnical Team on site is doing a penetrometer test on the bridges, creating offshoots at Pk 0+893, and the construction of the base is almost 90% complete. What is pending for now is just the construction of the fence around it and the septic tank/soakaway pits.
The road will equally connect Kupe Muanenguba Division with Meme Division, Manyu Division, and neighbouring countries like Nigeria without necessarily passing through the Littoral region.
The road has the objective to dis-enclave a good number of agricultural production basins like cocoa, coffee, and plantains, which are heavily produced by villages along the stretch of road. Mineral materials like sand and stones are heavily found in these areas that will be exploited after the construction of the road.
