A crucial 60km stretch of road Kumba-Ekondo-Titi has faced significant delays due to separatist conflict but is now being completed by the military (BIR) after contracts with civilian firms were terminated.
In reaction to the instruction of the Head of State, Paul Biya, instructed the mobilization of the BIR (Rapid Intervention Battalion) to intense work on the site to ease traffic on this strategically important project, which is vital for integrating the Ndian Division in the Southwest region.
It is for this reason work on the road stretch of Kumba-Ekondo-Titi is currently going on with average physical progress of 35% and financial advancement stand at 75%.
As of now, what has been done on the field so far relaying to the foundation layer which has been done completed from pk 0. 00 to pk 18+600 and the base layer done from PK 0.00 to 14+100. Sandblasted impregnation has been done from PK 0.00 to PK 13+500, some triangular ditches has been completed.
In addition, the BIR had placed the first coats of tar and completed significant sections of concrete drainage,the project was in advanced stages, with work on the base, sub-base, and culverts ongoing, aiming for completion in 2025 but due to the insecurity problem it was shifted to 2026.
The contract was awarded to the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) to be supervised by the public project management (MINTP) for an estimated amount of 40,601,372,000 FCFA (including TAX).
The road unlocks the economic potential of Ndian Division, in the Southwest region, rich in timber, oil, and fertile land, facilitating trade and agriculture, and boosting trade/agriculture, saw progress with tarring and drainage works in 2024, bringing hope and economic revitalization as the government prioritizes its completion, potentially by early 2025, due to past security challenges it has been shifted to 2026.
